Q: Lifetime Technical support? Really, even after my service contract expires? Is that possible?

A: YES! Cybernetics offers Lifetime Technical Phone Support (M-F 9AM to 8PM EST) on all iSAN products, even after your service contract expires.

Q: What is the "right SAN" for my use case?

A: A SAN that does everything you need it to without being loaded with expensive features you will never use. For example: many vendors charge a ton extra for SAN based replication, when it's most likely you will use Veeam or cloud-based replication instead.

SAN based replication is included with Cybernetics!

A: A SAN with the correct speed controllers and switches. Many vendors will minimize the need for 10Gb controllers and switches with SSD SAN, just to make the cost seem low and close the deal! This leaves you holding the bag and asking for more money because SSD SAN with 1Gb controllers may not outperform your existing legacy SAN.

VMsources never recommends SSD SAN unless it is installed with 10Gb controllers and 10Gb SAN Switches. VMsources has affordable 10Gb SAN Switches available.

Q: What is better: fully-provisioned or deduplicating SAN?

A: Deduplicating SAN uses software or hardware to reduce the footprint of some types of data, allowing larger amounts of data to be stored in smaller spaces, but at what cost?

Deduplicating SAN vendors are always using disclaimers like "based on compression" and "dedupe ratio" to justify the fact that they are actually selling thin air!

Deduplicating SAN inherently is slower than fully-provisioned on the same backing because the data has to be processed!

A: Deduplicating SAN achieves greater or less reduction based on the type of data stored.

For example: a compressed GIS database, ZIP files or backups are already compressed and will consume far more of a deduplicating SAN than the vendors sold you.

Why would you choose "approximately 100TB" of deduplicated storage when you can get exactly 100TB of uncompressed all-flash SSD Enterprise Storage for less money?

Q: What is Data at rest encryption" and when do I need it?

A: Data at rest encryption is when disk drives and/or SAN LUNs that are not currently in use are encrypted. This is to prevent physical access to data should the disk-drives and/or SAN LUNs be accessed offline or physically stolen. For example, if a laptop computer was lost in a taxi, data at rest encryption (such as Bitlocker™) would prevent someone from mounting the disk on another computer and accessing the data. VMs which are powered on are not at rest, and therefore don't technically require data-at-rest-encryption.
